Whether you're a salaried employee or a freelancer, you are expected to craft the perfect resume or portfolio and spend countless hours pitching yourself in hopes of landing a job or paid gig. As we all know, this usually takes an immense amount of time. Some have been able to shortcut this by hiring someone else to create their perfect CV, but there is no guarantee that anything will work.

This process is becoming more obsolete with the rise of AI and other factors. Becoming a standout candidate has never been harder. But thanks to the internet, there are new ways to make yourself stand out. As the expert who coined the term "lazy girl jobs," I have some ideas on how to help you become more noticeable as a candidate or reference.

As AI has drastically changed the hiring process, most resumes are created to match the job description with 100% accuracy through AI platforms. I have been teaching my community how to automate the resume writing process with AI for over a year now. The biggest reason I have been teaching this is to stay competitive in the job market. Everyone has access to the same technologies, so it becomes a space race of employees versus employers and employees against other employees to see who can use it best.

Another reason the system is broken is that the job market now requires an obscene number of job applications a day to land a job, and automating that process in any way is the right move. I am a big believer in approaching the small things from the lens of big things. Why spend time writing your own resume for each job when you can ask AI to do it and use that brain power on career strategy instead?

As a content creator, I personally find new businesses without a website or portfolio. Social media platforms, particularly TikTok, have become the new resume. Your online presence, the way you engage with your audience, and the content you create serve as a dynamic, ever-evolving portfolio. I go more into detail about that here. Potential clients and employers can see your skills in action, your personality, and your ability to connect with an audience — all without you needing to send a single PDF.

As traditional resumes become less relevant, there are three things you can do to help you become less reliant on the traditional way of getting a job.

1. Showcase your skills in real-time

Skills assessments are long gone. Gen Z is becoming tired of the expectations of 90-minute take-home skill assessment demands without knowing where they stand in their job candidacy. And that's after endless rounds of interviews, hearing no word back for months on end.

You can now bypass this by showcasing your skills online. Creating and growing an account that shares your skills and personality is one great way to show employers what you are about.

2. Build a personal brand

We see founders and other influencers crushing it on LinkedIn, but I've seen that the average 9-5 worker is not using the platform as much. We all know employers scan our personal social media accounts before hiring us anyway, causing us to think about our professional lives when posting. Why not also include our professional side on our social media? Consider adding some extra elements to accounts you already have that show off your professional skills.

3. Leverage technology

There are plenty of ways to implement AI to help save you time and create a social media account that will gain traction from employers. My favorite is Blaze, where you can go from not knowing what to post about to 30 scheduled LinkedIn posts for the month. People are using LinkedIn for SEO purposes to find new talent, especially recruiters. Why not take advantage of the free networking and exposure opportunities from diving into social media around your skillsets in corporate?

Conclusion

When you combine all of these things, you set yourself up to be more than just a resume, and employers will notice. So, whether you're a seasoned professional or just starting out, consider how you can use these tools to your advantage. The future of job hunting is here, and it's all about working smarter, not harder.
